Who we are

This website is operated by The Bright Family Law Center, LLC (14221 Metcalf Ave. Suite 210, Overland Park, KS 66223), a family law firm licensed in Kansas and Missouri. When this policy says “we” or “the firm”, it means that firm. It applies to this website only, not to the separate confidentiality that governs an attorney-client relationship once one exists.

What we collect, and when

Information you give us

When you request a consultation, we collect what you type into the form: your name, phone number, email address, the kind of matter you selected, and your message. When you join the newsletter, we collect your email address. You choose what to include; we ask you to keep the message general until we have confirmed we can act for you, because the firm may already represent someone else involved in your matter.

Each consultation request is written to a private log on our web server, which also records the date, time and the internet address (IP address) the request came from, and is then emailed to the firm. The log exists so that a request is never lost if an email fails. Nobody outside the firm can read it.

Information collected automatically

Like almost every website, ours uses a small number of third-party tools that set cookies and collect information about how the site is used: the pages you view, how you arrived, the device and browser you use, your approximate location derived from your IP address, and how you move through a page. These are described tool by tool below. None of them can see what you type into the consultation form.

Our hosting provider also keeps ordinary web server logs (IP address, page requested, time, browser) for security and troubleshooting.

The third-party tools on this site

We use these tools to understand whether the website is working, which pages people find useful, and whether our advertising reaches people who actually need a family lawyer. We do not sell the information they collect, and we do not use it to make decisions about you as a client.

• Google Analytics (delivered through Google Tag Manager) measures visits and page views, and records when a consultation request or newsletter sign-up is completed and when a phone number on the site is tapped. It sets cookies beginning _ga. Google’s own description of how it handles this data is at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
• Microsoft Clarity records how visitors interact with pages (clicks, scrolling, movement) and can replay an anonymised session so we can find parts of the site that confuse people. It sets cookies beginning _cl. Clarity is configured to mask what is typed into forms. Microsoft’s privacy statement is at privacy.microsoft.com/privacystatement.
• Meta Pixel (Facebook and Instagram) records that a page on this site was viewed, and whether a consultation request, newsletter sign-up or phone tap followed, so that the firm can measure its advertising on those platforms and show it to people who have visited this site. It sets a cookie beginning _fbp. If you are logged in to Facebook or Instagram, Meta may connect your visit to your account under its own policy, at facebook.com/privacy/policy.

The site does not embed social media feeds, chat widgets, or advertising from anyone else. Fonts are served from our own server, not from a font network.

What we use your information for

• To respond to your consultation request, by phone, text message or email.
• To check for conflicts of interest before we speak with you in detail, which the rules of professional conduct require of us.
• To send the newsletter you asked for, until you unsubscribe.
• To understand how the website is used and to keep it working and secure.
• To measure and place the firm’s own advertising, as described above.
• To meet the record-keeping obligations that apply to a law firm.

Who else sees it

The firm’s attorneys and staff, our web hosting provider (who stores the site and its logs), the analytics and advertising companies named above (for the automatically collected information only), and anyone we are legally required to disclose it to. We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it with other businesses for their own marketing. If the firm is ever sold or merged, client and enquiry records would transfer with it under the same professional obligations.

How long we keep it

Consultation requests are kept for as long as the firm needs them to respond to you, to check for conflicts, and to meet its professional record-keeping obligations. Newsletter addresses are kept until you unsubscribe. Analytics data is retained on the schedules of the tools above (Google Analytics is set to its standard retention period), and server logs are rotated by our hosting provider.

Your choices

• Unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time by emailing info@thebrightfamilylawcenter.comwith the word “unsubscribe”.
• Google Analytics: install Google’s opt-out browser add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout, or block cookies for this site in your browser.
• Meta:control how Meta uses data from websites in your Facebook or Instagram settings under “Your activity off Meta technologies”.
• All of the above:a browser content blocker, or your browser’s setting to block third-party cookies, stops every one of these tools from loading. The website works without them.
• Access, correction or deletion: email info@thebrightfamilylawcenter.com and we will tell you what we hold about you from this website and correct or delete it on request, except where we are required to keep it.

This site does not currently respond to browser “Do Not Track” signals, because there is no agreed standard for what they should mean.

Children

This website is for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13, and if we learn that we have, we will delete it.

Security

The site is served over an encrypted connection (HTTPS), the log of consultation requests is not reachable from the web, and access to it is limited to the firm and the people who maintain the site. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, which is one reason we ask you not to put confidential details in the form before we have spoken.

Changes to this policy

When we change what the site collects or which tools it uses, we will change this page and update the date at the top. The date is the record; we do not keep an archive of earlier versions on the site.
